About the Role:

The purpose of the Contract Accountant is to support the Head of Contract Accounting in the provision and continuous improvement of accurate, timely and well-presented net income information for inclusion in the overall financial management and performance reporting, including comprehensive variance analysis.

As the Contract Accountant you will provide analytical information and business partnering to the operational management teams to allow them to fully understand revenue and supply chain costs within their contracts, and the financial implications of their actions.

You will also support effective financial controls with the periodic reconciliation of balance sheet accounts. You will be responsible for the production of the weekly income forecasts to operational management, ensuring the information provided accurately reflects the expected performance of the business. The role will also support the production of longer-range forecasts as required.

Key Responsibilities:

• Reviewing the income and supply chain costs posted by the Claims Analysts, challenging any variances to forecast, and ensuring that correct tariff information is used

• Detailed analysis of any periodic variances to forecast, to form part of the overall draft results

• Update the weekly income forecast and distribute to the operational management for their review and comment

• Support monthly P&L reviews with operations, utilising the suite of financial and KPI reports available. Provide timely and detailed cost centre management information with explanations for cost variances. Help drive financial focus and improved operational efficiency.

• Assist with the assessment and implementation of new contracts from a revenue perspective, ensuring that the appropriate accounting treatments are implemented.

Essential Requirements:

• Qualified accountant (preferably CIMA), preceded by strong academic record. 

•Previous experience in a fast moving, high volume, multi-site environment, such experience to include preparation of monthly revenue accounts at detailed levels of accruals and prepayments, balance sheets reconciliations, KPI preparation and interpretation and forecasting.  

•Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel 

•Good accounting systems knowledge, gained through in-depth exposure to systems such as Oracle, SAP and CODA
