About us

Steps to Success is a government funded programme and is overseen by Department for Communities (DfC). The programme commenced in October 2014 in Northern Ireland. Reed in Partnership covers the southern part of Northern Ireland and to date have supported more than 5,000 people into work and have achieved targets set in every year of delivery.


The role

Location: Newry, Northern Ireland
Salary: £21,000-£24000
Fixed term contract

The EA will be expected to provide support to a caseload of between an average of up to 100 members depending on referrals each month from Jobs & Benefits offices. There will be a variety of members and eligibility groups to be providing support to - including JSA, Universal Credit and ESA claimants. There will be targets to achieved each month and additional guidelines to be followed in accordance with the Steps to Success programme delivery.


Key accountabilities

  • Pitches and sells Reed in Partnership as the partner of choice in Welfare to Work.
  • Develops own knowledge of Reed in Partnership and the relevant programme in order to enlist Participants.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with local Jobs & Benefits offices and other relevant Partners through regular telephone contact, visits and newsletters as appropriate to ensure Participants are aware of our services and to allay any concerns they may have with accessing or utilising our services.
  • Conduct introductory calls to sell the benefits of our programmes and service offering, tailoring as appropriate to needs of the individual concerned e.g. address accessibility barriers, identifying best location of initial assessment, making them aware they can bring a friend/Support Worker etc.
  • Signs Participants up to the programme following system and process guidance e.g. accurate and timely completion of Personal Employment Plan.


Skills and experience

  • Experience of working in a customer facing environment, e.g. Customer Services Assistant, Retail Assistant.
  • Experience of working in a performance target driven environment. Examples of such experience may include working as an Employment Adviser on a similar contract, being a Recruitment Consultant or experience of Business Development roles, sales targets in a retail business or call centre etc.
  • A minimum of 2 A-Levels or an equivalent Level 3 Diploma.
  • GCSE English Language at a minimum of a Grade B (or equivalent Level 2 qualification). OR achievement of a Level 2 in Literacy Assessment at interview stage.


Other

• Experience of exposure to client groups. These client groups may include incapacity benefit claimants, single parents, those with criminal records, mental health groups, ex-services, specific ethnic minority or faith groups and those with specific disabilities.
• Direct previous experience of a similar role. Roles considered to be similar include the role of Employment Adviser on a welfare to work contract or a publicly funded service.
• Degree or relevant qualification. Degree topics may include psychology, sociology, social care/science. Relevant qualifications would include Information Advice and Guidance NVQs, Brokerage Standard, Social Work qualifications or qualifications relating to work with the specific client groups this role will involve.
• Level 3 or 4 NVQ in Advice & Guidance or equivalent and / or a recognised teaching/training qualification or studying for one (City and Guilds 7407 or 7304, PTLLS/CTLLS/DTLLS/Level 3 Award in Education)
