The Role

An Employment Adviser is responsible for the attraction, registration and progression of Members to achieve placements. An Employment Adviser will use a variety of techniques including effective diagnosis, individual and group coaching, maximising on any Member funding available to achieve sustainable employment.

An Employment Adviser will work towards strict targets and guidelines in accordance to the programme obligations and Reed in Partnership process. This is not an exhaustive list and an Employment Adviser will be expected to carry out any other duties as may be specified by their manager from time to time. This profile is non-contractual.


Attraction and Enlisting

Attraction and Enlisting normally includes maintaining up-to-date knowledge and strong relationships with partners and community organisations for Mandatory programmes. For Voluntary programmes it may include conducting outreach activity such as door knocking , touring streets, shopping centres, job fairs and employer event. This will also include contributing to the team efforts by liaison with the Marketing team on content and design for marketing material, distribution of material and negotiation of referral agreements.

 Pitches and sells Reed in Partnership as the partner of choice in Welfare to Work.
 Develops own knowledge of Reed in Partnership and the relevant programme in order to enlist Members.
 Builds and maintains relationships with the Job Centre Plus and other relevant Partners through telephone contact, visits and newsletters as appropriate to ensure enlisting of Members to the programme.
 Supports outreach activity either directly or by partnering with Outreach Advisers as the programme and district allows and requires it.
 Signs Members up to the programme.


Engagement and Diagnosis

Employment Advisers plan for their appointments with Members to ensure effective use of time, rapport building and an adequate two way exchange with the Member. In some cases they may hand out induction material. Using a variety of forms and processes such as the Getting to Know You, Interview and Engagement, Member referral forms and the Fast track skills for life assessment. Employment Advisers will identify Members goals, aspirations, first level barriers either directly or through internal and external contacts.

 Provides a good customer service to Members including meeting and greeting Members in a professional way.
 Explains the detail of the programme including ensuring the Member understands their rights and responsibilities, whilst registering the Member in accordance to contractual obligations and eligibility criteria.
 Identifies and utilises various approaches where appropriate such as Better Off Calculations (BOC), visionary goal setting, and applicable financial incentives to sell the benefits of the programme and to adequately diagnose first level barriers.
 Identifies, clarifies and manages the Member expectations of the process including data protection, confidentiality and ground rules of the programme and the relationship in order to achieve buy-in to the programme.
 Liaises with relevant partners to inform them of Member registration, to assist with first level and/or deeper level barriers as appropriate.
 Identifies appropriate short and long term solutions' and interventions as required by the Member's needs, programme constraints and opportunities.


Member Progression

Progression includes in the main sustainable employment but also includes job search skills, strategy, empowerment and confidence. Employment Advisers identify job ready Members and progress appropriately. Employment Advisers actively manage Government financed spend also known as Personal Job Accounts (PJAs) to apply full resources that achieve sustainable employment. Examples of Members PJA expenditure includes bus passes, interview clothes, subsistence or any other input that may improve Member job search and placement.

 Develops and manages Members job goals using creative techniques and deep level questioning as necessary for the Members needs, to assist with diagnosis and progression.
 Appropriately classifies and progresses Members in relation to A - E job readiness categories.
 Motivates, encourages and empowers Members, identifying barriers, job goals and social training needs, referring to the Journey Employability training course, Routes to Success training or external interventions as the programme allows and/or requires it.
 Develops the Member's job search strategy and skills by assisting with internet job searching, CV creation, interview techniques and identification of job related quantifiable skills.
 Manages caseloads to take into account internal accuracy rejection rates in order to achieve targets.
 Advises Members on barriers addressing practical and explicit barriers upfront, making full use of Government Funding or PJA as required.
 Three way reviews following a training intervention, with the Member and the trainer to ensure outcomes are embedded and captured.
 Undertakes 50/50 action plans with all Members ensuring that all soft and hard goal aims are captured, monitored and developed through contractually derived Member Action Plans (MAPS) and Weekly Action Plans (WAPS).


Employer Vacancy Development

Employment Advisers sell the benefits of Reed in Partnership, the programme, or a specific Member to Employers or internal contacts (Recruitment Manager/Employer Engagement Manager) to achieve a placement. They will research the individual Employer assessment process preparing the candidate accordingly. Employment Advisers will manage relationships with Employers and negotiate the process to ensure placement, following up with both the Member and the Employer to ensure a smooth transition and employment.

 Researches and maintains up to date knowledge of the local labour market, employers and industry sectors.
 Identifies appropriate internal and external contacts to build, develop and maintains relationship as a source of referral of vacancies.
 Sells the benefits of Reed in Partnership and specific Members, preparing those Members to achieve placements through business development calls and submitting CVs.
 Makes decisions and advocate on behalf of the Member under the agreed job search route including initial business development, job and vacancy research, interview preparation and final placement.
